This episode focusing on navigating the holiday season is a solo one with me. The holiday season can be particularly challenging if you are trying to move away from dieting or are in eating disorder recovery. There are typically lots of food, social events, often centred around food and alcohol, and we might spend more time with family than what we normally do. For some people more time with family is another additional stressor.
This can amplify all of the typical challenges you have around food, eating and body image. So to give you some suggestions for how to navigate the holiday season this I made this episode.
In this podcast episode to help you navigate the holiday season I’ll explore:
- How Dieting can be “seasonal”
- Is Christmas time just one legitimate binge fest?
- How to handle unwanted diet talk with friends and family members
- How food restriction can lead to over eating later
And more.
I am also answering two listener questions. If you have a question you would like me to answer anonymously just drop me an email to [email protected] with the heading QUESTION.
I leave you with another question to ponder: What would it be like if you don’t start a new diet in January? How might this influence your food choices over the next couple of weeks? Please remember to be kind and compassionate towards yourself. This time of year can be intense. It is often not just the food stuff, but also the feelings of having to socialise, perform or being seen as perfect that can intensify things. If you are then someone who either tends to turn to food or to restrict food as a way to deal with emotions, then it can become a perfect storm.
